The trial for the 2012 Saif Ali Khan assault case is set to begin on June 15, 11 years after the incident took place. The actor, along with his friend Bilal Amrohi and Amrita Arora’s husband Shakeel Ladakh, was charged for allegedly fighting with businessman Iqbal Mir Sharma at the Wasabi restaurant inside the Taj Hotel. Khan had been accompanied by Kareena Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor, Malaika Arora Khan, Amrita Arora, and some boyfriends at the time of the incident.
According to a PTI report, Sharma alleged that the actor threatened him and punched him on the nose when he objected to their rude remarks. Khan, on the other hand, alleged that Sharma used abusive language against the women who were with him. The police filed the charge sheet on December 21, 2012. Khan, Amrohi, and Ladakh were arrested but were later released on bail.
The trial has been delayed for several years due to various reasons, including the COVID-19 pandemic. However, with the case finally set to begin, Khan and his co-accused will be appearing in the Esplanade Court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate to face the charges against them.
